President's Message

Beverly BrooksAs we near the end of the first quarter of 2012, Eglinton Lawrence continues to be a very active EDA. We have a very ambitious Election Readiness Committee, chaired by Hugh Samson, who has developed a comprehensive plan to maintain and expand voter support in our riding and ensure that the Eglinton Lawrence Conservative EDA is well prepared for the next election. This plan includes door-to-door canvassing and community activities. The Committee has put out a call for an events researcher, an activities co-ordinator and volunteers to help the individuals who take on the first two roles. These events will help our MP, Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver, heighten his profile, strengthen his ties in the riding and make inroads into new groups who reside in the constituency.

Minister Oliver continues to reap praise from the media, the natural resources and energy industry and trade associations for his proactive stances on issues. Since the election there has been a constant stream of high profile issues that have required the Minister’s attention and with which he has dealt very effectively - the sale of AECL, the Keystone XL pipeline and the Lower Churchill Project - just to name a few.

Minister Oliver is speaking at the Columbus Centre about the budget at 7:30 A.M. on March 30, the day after the budget is delivered in the House of Commons by the Minister of Finance. Current and past riding members, volunteers and supporters will be invited.

Our first fund raising event of the year will take place at the Columbus Centre on May 16. Our guest speaker will be Associate Minister of National Defence Julian Fantino, MP for Vaughan.  The Fund Raising Committee, Chaired by Richard Tattersal is working hard to ensure that our efforts to raise funds are very effective even though an election is at least four years away. I hope that as many people as possible can support this event.

I would encourage everyone to become involved in riding events. We need to keep up the momentum if we are to be successful in the next election so please volunteer your time so that we can continue to grow our support throughout the riding.
