President's Message

Beverly BrooksWhat a year 2011 has been!  The riding of Eglinton Lawrence elected its first Conservative MP in more than 30 years. And it does not stop there. Joe Oliver was appointed to the Cabinet a few days after the election.  Since becoming the Minister of Natural Resources, Joe Oliver has concluded a number of missions to strengthen trade with China and Japan, played a major role in promoting the Keystone XL Pipeline project, promoted the oil sands internationally, sold AECL to SNC Lavalin, provided a loan guarantee for the Churchill River Clean Energy Project and announced clean technology projects across Canada. What a record especially given that he has not been the Minister for a full year yet! Back in the riding, the board has been focused on putting an election readiness committee in place to ensure that our support base continues to grow. We are, of course, at least four years away from the next election but it is never too early to continue to build our network and extend our outreach efforts to possible supporters in the riding. As we will be holding our Annual AGM in late January or early February, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the EDA directors for their efforts this year. The majority of directors played a major role in helping campaign for Joe Oliver in the federal election. Our success is indicative of the fact that when we combine our efforts and work hard we can succeed.

- Beverly Brooks
